Hubert is a staunch activist for minority health issues and as the Celebrity Ambassador" for the National Osteoporosis Foundation she is spearheading an awareness campaign specifically targeted at the African American community. Osteoporosis is a disease in which bones become fragile and more likely to break. If not prevented or if left untreated, osteoporosis can progress painlessly until a bone breaks. These broken bones, also known as fractures, occur typically in the hip, spine, and wrist. Recently diagnosed with this debilitating disease, Hubert feels a strong obligation to get the word out. She explains, With osteoporosis there are no warning signs. You cant see it and you cant feel it but the effects can be devastating. Studies forecast seventy-five percent of African Americans are lactose intolerant which results in weak bone density. Between 80-90% of bone fractures in African American women is due to osteoporosis and the risk of hip fractures doubles every seven years. These statistics can be reduced dramatically with a simple Bone Density test and I am going to do everything I possibly can to inform and educate the public."
